Support for innovation and development, corporate category:
OPEQ (Computers for Schools Quebec) recovers 50,000 computers each year from major donors such as governments and large companies. Those devices are upgraded thanks to a hundred of young people in six workshops, to be redistributed afterwards to schools and NPOs. The jury was touched by the fact that these young people are dropouts or have learning disabilities that interfere with their education. The OPEQ program offers them a stimulating work environment that motivates them to return to school or to integrate the workforce with their newly acquired work experience. OPEQ established several partnerships, including one with AQLM who relays the offers on behalf of OPEQ to its associated recreational organizations. This collaboration helped redistribute 1153 computers to 312 organizations between September 2010 and June 2011.
